10,000 SCHOOLS IN BASIC EDUCATION PROJECT WILL BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF AUGUST

10,000 Schools in Basic Education project is about to be finalized. Physical environments of disadvantaged primary and secondary schools selected for the project are reinforced and the Ministry provided overall education support for students, teachers, administrators and parents. Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer announced that the successful project will be completed by the end of August and they will share the outcome of the project with the public after the assessment meeting scheduled for the first week of September.

An overall assessment meeting was organized about the "10,000 Schools in Basic Education Project" which was initiated by the Ministry of National Education with the purpose of decreasing success and opportunity differences among schools and reinforcing equal opportunity in education.
 
Deputy Ministers of Education Sadri Şensoy, Petek Aşkar, Nazif Yılmaz and Osman Sezgin as well as the directors of related departments affiliated to the Ministry and provincial directors of national education were present at the meeting chaired by the Minister Özer.
 
Özer stressed that their priority is to reinforce equal opportunity in education and provide quality of education to students regardless of their location and income level of their parents.
 
Özer noted that his Ministry initiated two important projects within this framework namely increasing schooling rates in preschool education and the 10,000 Schools in Basic Education project.
 
Minister Özer said that the physical environments of disadvantaged primary and secondary schools selected for the project are reinforced and the Ministry provided overall education support for students, teachers, administrators and parents. The Ministry also organized training programs for students, parents and provided teaching materials for students that will improve their basic skills.
 
"We have allocated 2,9 billion lira budget to the project. With Allah's permission, we will complete it until the end of August and share the outcome in the first week of September," said Özer.
 
He added that the 2,9 billion lira budget was used for lesson and first aid materials, special education materials, camera and security system installations, recycle bins and compost machines, minor repairs, interactive boards, printers and computers.
 
As a part of the project, the Ministry offered digital literacy, new approaches in measurement and assessment, climate change and environment and first aid training courses for 106 thousand and 244 teachers and 13 thousand and 344 administrators of 10 thousand schools. Approximately 2 million and 700 students enrolled in the selected 10,000 schools attended first aid, prevention of addiction, environment awareness, traffic safety and mind games training programs.
 
The Ministry also organized family school, first aid, peer bullying and cyberbullying awareness training programs for 700 parents and basic education and prevention of addiction training programs for adults.
